It’s no secret that I am a big fan of children’s books. My daughter has so many books and we love nothing better than reading together. So when I was asked if we would like to take a look at Once Upon a Time: A Timeless Collection of Fairy Tales I said “Yes Please!” and I have to say I fell in love with the book as soon as it arrived.
My husband and I have decided to give it to my daughter for her 4th birthday. Each year we create a book advent calendar for her (you can see last years here.) And so on her birthday next month she will open this book as the first thing on her birthday. And what a wonderful way to start of the day!
The Once Upon a Time book has a lovely purple hardcover with gold text, to be honest with you even the cover looks magical. And there right on the front of the book there is “Stories for…” and your child’s name. It’s definitely theirs from before they have even opened the cover! The title page of the book is gorgeous and there is space for a 2 line message too. (As you can see I have edited these photos slightly, but the book does feature my daughter’s name, hence the dedication at the bottom of the page.)
Inside the magic continues with 12 classic fairy tales, including Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel and Jack and the Beanstalk. I love that there is such a wonderful range of fairy tales included in Once Upon a Time. What’s more each of the 12 fairy tales has illustrations in it’s own style. I absolutely adore them all, some are so bold and colourful but my favourite is the illustrations for Little Red Riding; they are mainly black and white, with that bold red cloak standing out beautifully, and each fits inside the outline of a wolf.
In each of the illustrations the name of the child features in a different way, it works so well. I can’t wait to see my daughter searching for her name in each of illustrations.
I think that Once Upon a Time is a wonderful book and would make the perfect special present for any child. And I know that our copy is going to be one of those treasured keepsakes as my daughter grows. Once Upon of Time costs £29.99 and is available from Find Me a Gift.
I love that my daughter loves reading books, and I am going to do everything I can to nurture that passion. I think reading, books and fairy tales are one of the most important things for a child. I am going to leave you with words from a very wise man…
“If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.” Albert Einstein
We were sent a copy of Once Upon a Time free of charge, however all opinions and words are my own. As stated above photos have been edited to replace my daughter’s name with my own.
