I must confess I am a little sad to be sharing my thoughts on the last book in the Caitlyn trilogy. And I am really going to miss reading about Caitlyn. The third book in the series, Another Kind of Magic, is every bit as amazing as the first two books and if I had to pick it would be my favourite of the three.

Title: Another Kind of Magic
Author: Elizabeth Davies
Author Bio: Elizabeth Davies is a paranormal author, whose books have a romantic flavour with more than a hint of suspense. And death. There’s usually death…
Synopsis: “I am a cat. But I am no ordinary cat. I am a witch’s familiar. I am also a woman, with a woman’s heart and a woman’s frailty.”
Nearly two hundred years have passed since Caitlyn was trapped by supernatural forces and black magic, and she has known many mistresses. This time, the witch she is enthralled to is Joan, wife of Llewelyn, Prince of Wales.
At first, this mistress appears no different to any of the others Caitlyn has served – until Llewelyn captures William de Braose, and Joan falls in love, risking everything, including Caitlyn, to fulfil her desire.
Caitlyn, meanwhile, has her own cross to bear in the form of the gallant and reckless Hugh of Pembroke…

Review: I had to finished the series as soon as I had my hands on my eARC of Another Kind of Magic. Caitlyn’s story is so compelling I just needed to know how it ended. Especially after the cliffhanger that was the end of book two! (You can see my full review of book 2: A Stain on the Soul here.)
As I have said above Another Kind of Magic is my favourite of the three Caitlyn books, mainly because I love the focus on Caitlyn’s character. I love the writing style and Caitlyn really comes alive in these books. There are a whole cast of characters to both love and hate. I loved the setting of Another Kind of Magic so much, and the new characters we meet were fun to read about.
However, it was so difficult reading as Caitlyn sinks in to despair. She has had a long time to think about her life and it’s confines and in Another Kind of Magic she both imagines and then actually attempts suicide. These emotions feel so very really and there were several points during the book where they were almost overwhelming, which shows how much, as a reader, you connect with Caitlyn.
The characters in this book are incredible, so vivid and unique. I love Blod – she is a force of nature! It was so wonderful to see her friendship with Caitlyn grow. It’s also interesting that the books have come full circle and we are now back in Wales where the story starts. Though it also feels so new as it is set 200 years after the events of books 1 and 2.
The pace of plot was perfect, it sped up over the course of the second half of the book as we get swept up in the unfolding events. But I won’t say more as I really don’t want to spoil things. I found it impossible to put down… I needed to get to the end, I needed to find out whether or not Caitlyn got her happy ending.
I would definitely recommend this series of any fans of historical fantasy fiction and fantasy fiction. The characters are wonderfully written, the plot just keeps pulling you along and all three books are a thoroughly enjoyable read.
Remember to check out the other stops along the tour too.
