I feel like we have barely had time to blink and already I am writing my end of January posts! We read so many books over Christmas and in December in general it feels like this month’s post is a little bit empty! Though there has been lots of chances to read as the weather has been awful here. But we have spent time playing games and doing jigsaws.

Books we've read January - Old Books Pages forward

One day last week, however, we were having a lazy afternoon after Boo had been at nursery and she brought a pile of books over to me and one by one she asked me to read them too her. All 8 of them, and she sat there and listened and engaged with all of them. Asking questions and talking about the story and the pictures. It was a truly wonderful afternoon!

Boo’s Books
Boo has been reading a lot of her ‘older’ books this month, she has been reading The Perfect Cup of Tea, Zog and Zog and the Flying Doctors (which are both awesome books!). She has also been asking to read The Singing Mermaid and Sugarlump and the Unicorn. I have the feeling that we should be keeping an eye out for some more Julia Donaldson books as Boo is clearly a big fan!

Zog and Zog and the Flying Doctors are great books, told in rhyme, with gorgeous pictures. Boo loves that Princess Pearl wants to be a doctor and doesn’t do what she is told! They are a pleasure to read and I hope Boo keeps choosing them as her bedtime stories.

We have also been reading The Great Francais Wordsearch – which is an amazing book, I love the concept. The story starts in English and slowly turns more in to French. You can see our full review here.

Books We've Read December 2017 - Boo Reading

We have also been reading Molly Maybe and the Ghost Train and Molly Maybe and the Monster Mission a lot this month. Boo wanted to read them up to Halloween, I think that was all the talk of ghosts and monsters in the run up to Halloween. But she has started asking for them again, which is fine by me as I love reading these ones too!

Our Books
I have been making more time to read as I have set myself the target of reading 24 books in 2017 (though maybe I should have set myself the target of finishing all of the books and series I am part way through! It’s getting a bit ridiculous now – I blame it on the fact that there are so many good books I just have to start reading them all!

I have read Queen of the Damned this month, I read it years ago but it was nice to revisit. I am going to carry on with the rest of The Vampire Chronicles later this year hopefully. I read Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat towards the end of last year. I have also been reading On Writing by Stephen King which is such a fascinating book, I just can’t put it down!

I have managed to sneak in rereading A Discovery of Witches again – I guess I am just excited about the new Deb Harkness book coming out later this year, so I clearly need to read the All Souls Trilogy again (and again!)

I bought myself The Bazaar of Bad Dreams by Stephen King, which is a collection of his short stories. And the Truthwitch by Susan Dennard. I haven’t made a start on either of these yet but they are going on my ever increasing books to read pile! I read the blurb on the back of The Truthwitch and it sounded so interesting I just had to buy a copy. From the blurb it soundsĀ like it’s going to be a really immersive Fantasy series and I can’t wait to get started on it – I don’t like to read reviews as I think they can spoil things so I have no idea what it’s going to be like!

My husband is reading Children of Time, which is a book I bought him for Christmas. Neither of us has read anything by the author, so it was a bit of a gamble, but it’s paid off as he is really enjoying it and the parts he has told me about sound so interesting I need to read it when he is finished. I haven’t read a lot of ‘proper’ SciFi stuff so this should be really interesting.

What have you been reading this month?
