Last year I read 67 books, and it was the first year that I tracked my reading with Goodreads. You can see the full list of books I read and rated here. I hope to Goodreads to track my reading again this year. I also want to make sure that I include reviews of the book I have read on there, as I find the review on there are really helpful to me. I am not however going to increase my reading goal for this year. My 2018 reading goals are 24 books, which is what my target was for 2017.
This is the same number as last year because I don’t want to add any stress to my year with a high reading goals target. I will be starting my Masters mid way through the year and so I will spend the first half of the year completing the pre-reading for that course and the second half of the year studying. This is going to eat in to my potential reading time. So I need to keep this in mind.
I also aim to have the first draft for my WIP completed by the end of the year and so writing time, will, again cut in to reading time too, so I needed to be conscious of this when setting my reading goals for this year. I need to be realistic rather than competitive with my 2017 self. And most importantly of all I am trying to practice self care this year so I want to enjoy everything I do and not focus on what I “should” be doing. So that means more of doing what I want to do during my free time, and I don’t want to be trying to beat last years number.
I don’t normally have a to be read list in order prepared I just read what I fancy when I finish a book. I do tend to go through phases, towards the end of last year there were a couple of months in which I read a lot of vampire books, etc. But I do have a round list of books I would love to read this year including (in no particular order);

*The Rebels of Gold by Elise Kova
The third book in the Loom Saga, you can see my review of the first book of The Alchemists of Loom here, which is the first book in this amazing series. Fantasy meets Steampunk! I am so keen to read the third and last book in the series, but I know that I am really going to miss Arianna, Cvareh and Florence when I finish that last page.
*The Air Awakens Series by Elise Kova
“A library apprentice, a sorcerer prince, and an unbreakable magic bond… ” This series had me at library… it’s a five book series with three prequels so I know that I am going to have fun getting lost in this world. It’s also included in the Kindle Unlimited on Amazon, which is a bonus if you have that. I have found so many fab books through that.
*The Bargainer Book 3 by Laura Thalassa (when it comes out)
I can’t wait to see what happens to Callie and Derek, I do love a good supernatural mystery with lots of magic thrown in. The ending of the second book A Strange Hymn was a bit of a cliff hanger so I really can’t wait to get back to this story.
*The World of All Souls – Deb Harkness.
It could literally be anything set in this world and I would love it, but I know that there is the All Soul’s Companion coming out this year which is going to be so incredible and a book about Marcus who is one of the main characters from the original trilogy. Yay!
*Neverwhere – Neil Gaiman
I was given an illustrated edition of this as a Christmas present and it look really intriguing so I can’t wait to read it! I mean the blurb begins.. “Under the streets of London there’s a world most people could never even dream of. A city of monsters and saints, murderers and angels, and pale girls in black velvet.” so I am sold!
*Good Omens – Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
I saw this in the bookshop and I just had to have it, it sounded so hilarious, and I love Terry Pratchett. I mean… “According to the Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch – the world’s only totally reliableguide to the future, written in 1655, before she exploded – the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just after tea…” It just doesn’t get better than that!
*Girls Made of Snow and Glass – Melissa Bashardoust
This is apparently a retelling of Snow White and I have just started to read it, I am a few pages in, and it’s already completely got my attention! I find the whole concept of the book really intriguing, and I must admit over the past year I have come to love fairy tale retellings!
*A Court of Frost and Starlight – Sarah J. Maas
This is going to be a novella set after the events of the ACOTAR trilogy, which will act as a bridge between that and the new series Maas intends to write which is also set in the same world. I can’t wait I miss my Azriel! I am sad I have to wait all the way until May though.
*The Midnight Queen Series – Sylvia Hunter
My husband bought me the series as a Christmas present and I cant wait to read it. The covers look stunning (not that you should judge a book by it’s cover of course, but it really helps when a book has a gorgeous cover!) It’s a magical college in Oxford, I just know I am going to love it.
*Of Fire and Stars – Audrey Coulthrust
I was recommended this one by someone on Twitter and after reading the blurb, which was all about magic, power and love. I mean it ends with the line “Forced to choose between their duty and their hearts, Mare and Denna must find a way to save their kingdoms–and each other.”
*Furyborn – Clare Legrand
I have the ARC of this book, and it doesn’t come out until May, and I really don’t think I am going to last and I will be reading my ARC sooner rather than later. But again, an irresistable blurb means I can’t not read it! “As Rielle and Eliana fight in a cosmic war that spans millennia, their stories intersect, and the shocking connections between them ultimately determine the fate of their world–and of each other.”
*Spellslinger series – Sebastian de Castell
Another present, but this one was for my birthday, it’s not something I would have probably picked up myself but it sounds intriguing and I can’t wait to read it. It’s apparently “an intoxicating mix of weird magic and high adventure.” I am so going to love it!
*Stolen Songbird – Danielle Jensen
I found Danielle Jensen through Instagram, I actually won a competition she was holding for a copy of one of the Loom Saga Books and some swag, which was amazing! And in with my prize was a bookmark from one of Danielle’s books, it sounds so interesting I just had to buy the books. I have so many book I have bought that I need to read, I think at my last count I had about 70 unread books on my shelves…
*The Broken Empire books 2 and 3 – Mark Lawrence
I can’t wait to find out more about Jorg’s adventures, though I will have to make sure I am in the right frame of mind to read about them. I am sure that book’s two and three of this series are going to be just as dark, if not darker than the first.
*Shadowsong – S. Jae-Jones
I know it’s going to break my heart, but I can’t wait for this book, I need to know what happens after the end of Wintersong, I still get teary when I look at that book! I saw some quotes from Shadowsong on twitter the other day and wow, I just can’t even explain how epic they were!
*Hunting Prince Dracula – Kerri Maniscalco
I am hoping there are less creepy photos in this one, but I know it will be a creepy book, and I am looking forward to it, I will just have to read it during the day! We follow Audery Rose to Romania for the next mystery!
*Ace of Shades – Amanda Foody
I loved the Daughter of the Burning City so much I just have to have this one on my list, it’s not due out for a while but I have pre-ordered it. It sounds so amazing and it’s fun following Amanda on twitter and seeing some of the creative process for this book. “Welcome to the City of Sin, where casino families reign, gangs infest the streets…and secrets hide in every shadow.”
And lots of the books that will be arriving each month with my Fairyloot Box, which is literally the best book subscription box ever! I will be sharing photos over the course of the year.
Which takes me up to my reading goals pretty much! 2018 is going to be an amazing year reading wise and there are so many wonderful books out this year!! I have already read my first book of the year; *Everless by Sara Holland and it was amazing, I have my review coming soon so do keep an eye out for that. I don’t mind telling you now that it was 5/5 stars!
