I have set myself a challenge this year, and I am hoping to complete it – and maybe even exceed it -it’s in my bucket list for 2016…I want to read at least 13 books before the 31st December 2016. Books for me, books without pictures (for the most part). So I thought I would share my current books to read pile.

My books to read pile - I have set myself the challenge of reading at least 13 books in 2016 and here is my current books to read pile

The best way to do this, for me, is to write lists and join up to Good Reads (I have already read 6 books this year so I am going fairly well… maybe I need to change my target!) – that way I know where I am headed next. So here is some of my books to read pile – I am sure other books will get slotted in and I might not read all of these before the end of the year but I would like to make a dent in it!

  1. The Girl with all the Gifts – M.R.Carey – I have pretty much finished reading this one, but I put it down to read something else and haven’t started reading it again (I don’t know why I do it! Please tell me I am not the only one who does this?) – so I want to finish this one and soon.  It’s a really amazing book – not normally the type of book I would read – and I can’t say too much without spoiling it but I would definitely recommend it so far!
  2. The Strange Affair of Spring Heeled Jack – Mark Hodder –  I picked this one up months ago in my local book shop because I really liked the cover (haha) and it just sounded so interesting from the blurb on the back.   I haven’t read anything by Mark Hodder or much steampunk before so it’s going to be a good change for me.
  3. Half Bad and Half Wild – Sally Green – I have already read Half Bad but it was when it first came out and I want to reread it before I read Half Wild (and Half Lost which comes out at the end of March).  I really loved the first one and read it in a couple of days – so hopefully the second (and third) books in the trilogy will be as good! It’s about witches, but totally different to anything I have read about witches before. It’s a YA book and fairly quick to read compared to a lot of fantasy but no less interesting!
  4. Smiler’s Fair – Rebecca Levene – This is going to be amazing I just know it, an epic fantasy – which is one of my favourite genres.  the blurb just drew me in, and it was another impulse buy at my local book store! I love being able to escape in to a full mythical world of an authors imagination.  ‘They say all paths cross at Smiler’s Fair. They say it’ll change your life. And five people are about to discover how true that is.’ I just need to read this book!
  5. The Queen of The Tearling – Erika Johansen another impulse buy –  and another SciFi/Fantasy book that just sounded too good to miss, a coming of age story from the blurb about 19 year old Kelsea who ‘will become the most fearsome ruler the kingdom has ever know… or be dead within the week’.  It’s had great reviews this one and I have seen it on lots of other people’s to read lists!
  6. The All Souls Trilogy – now I have already read this series (5 times now) but… I got this hardback set for my birthday and I want to read these actual copies of the books because they are just gorgeous.  I can honestly say that this set of books is my all time favourite set of books ever.  I just love everything about it. Set in a world where humans, witch, vampires and daemons inhabit, the first book is set in modern day Oxford at the university.  It’s got everything I love, magic, books, history and a strong female character who will not be ordered about by anyone – even by a 1500 year old vampire! This set also came with something a little special.. In the books Diana one of the main characters writes a little notebook, and there is a version of that notebook in with this set. It’s just amazing and a really special little book for collectors.
  7. Spinward Fringe Broadcast Books 0-9 – Randolph Lalonde – An epic space opera, (this is why my Kindle is in the photo!) I am currently on the 3rd book in the series, and I am hooked! My husband suggested this series a while ago and I was a little dubious at first but I am so glad I started reading it.  I am sure this series is really going to help my reach my total for the year! The characters are great, and it’s space-y without being too over the top with space-battles and physics.

I know that all of these books are going to be amazing, I am just not sure which of them I am going to read next…

Have you read any of these? What’s on your books to read pile?
