There is something wonderful about finding a new author that you love, isn’t there? But there is also something even better than that… finding a new author that you love AND finding out that they have written lots and lots of lovely books! It wasn’t that long ago that my daughter and I discovered Oi Frog and we just love it and the other books in the series, which I will be reviewing as soon as I get a moment.

Title: Oi Frog!

Author: Kes Gray

Illustrated by: Jim Fields

Blurb: Cats sit on mats, hares sit on chairs, mules sit on stools and gofers sit on sofas, but Frog does not want to sit on a log! Jam-packed with animals and silliness, this original rhyming story will have young children in fits of laughter.

Review: I have to confess it was the fab cover which first attracted me to *Oi Frog when my daughter and I were spending some time in our local book store, and she found the title hilarious. It was an impulse buy, and most definitely one of the best impulse buys I have purchased in a very long time.

The premise is simple and and silly. It quite simply is just a joy to read.  The rhyming throughout the books really helps add to the rhythm and my daughter’s enjoyment of the book. My daughter positively howls with laughter every time we read Oi Frog and I can’t help but do silly voices for the cat and the frog. It’s a book she often requests to be her bedtime story, even if we have read it several times that day.

It’s a book that will really help develop a love of reading because it’s just that wonderful. The illustrations are absolutely amazing, the bright bold colours which change on each page really help make the book interesting for those readers who are at the younger end of the intended age range and the silly elements will really make any child (and adult) chuckle.

We liked Oi Frog so much that we instantly went out and bought *Oi Dog (and when I found out a third book was coming out *Oi Cat! I bought that too – and was lucky enough to get a copy which was signed by the illustrator.

I would definitely recommend Oi Frog for anyone who has a child aged 3 – 5. It’s a such a fun, silly book. And it’s great to read, again and again!
