Review: We had great fun reading the Beedog book, my daughter is 4 so she is at the youngest end of the target audience for the book. I think that older children would get even more out of The Beedog as well as the accompanying activities. There is a wide range of activities to cover the whole age groups. I think that the outdoor writing prompts looks fantastic, and I will be keeping the list to try out with my daughter in a couple of years time.
The writing style is really fun and kept my daughter engaged. The book is a fairly short one at 33 pages for the story and I think at it would have been even better to have the story a little longer with a little more information in it. The extra information about the sand wasp at the end of the story was great and my daughter really loved learning about it. She currently prefers non-ficition for both her bedtime stories and other reading. The Beedog was a nice mix of both and we did a bit more research of our own. I really liked that fact that the characters had to keep trying to find the right information once they got home, perseverance is a great quality to teach young children but it can been a tricky thing to get across.
The illustrations are really love and bright. My daughter loved looking at the pictures, especially those of the ‘beedog’. The first time we read The Beedog at the end my daughter wanted me to read it to her again straight away! That’s how much she loved it. As you can see from both the cover and these illustrations they are just so fun to look at.
I think that The Beedog is a wonderful book, encourages interest in both the natural world and STEM subjects. The book and the activities available via the website are a great starting point for discussion and learning about insects, habitats and geography. There are even some colouring pages related to the book too.
The Beedog is available on Amazon in both eBook and paperback formats and is available as part of a Kindle Unlimited Subscription if you have one.
We received an ecopy of The Beedog for the purpose of the blog tour, however all opinions and words are my own.
