I have another wonderful children’s book to share with you today. The Smoth is a gorgeously illustrated children’s book, which my daughter and I have loved reading. It’s perfect for a bedtime story.

The Smoth - Children's Book Review

I am always so happy to be asked to review books, and it’s even more wonderful when we find a book that we really love. The Smoth definitely falls in to this catagory and I was very happy to be asked if we would share our thoughts on it.

Review: I love children’s books with a message behind the beautiful pictures and words. Reading is a passion of mine and something which I hope that my daughter will love as she gets older. She loves nothing more than to have a story (or several) read to her and I hope this continues even after she can read books to herself. Books with a message are always the ones that stay with us the longest and they can have such an impact on our lives too.

The Smoth - Children's Book Review - title page

The Smoth is one of those wonderful books, which makes a great bedtime story and has a wonderful message behind the text and illustrations too. As you can see from the photos, the illustrations are absolutely incredible, from the title font on the front page, right though to the last page of the illustrations.

I love that Virginie has managed to capture the wonder of childhood so well in her illustrations. The story follows a young boy and his mum, so it is only fair that we get to see the tale brought to live with these incredible illustrations which really reminded me of the way everything is so bright and exciting as a child.

The words are just as wonderful, as the message, that we should not judge by appearances. The message behind the story is woven so well that The Smoth does not feel preachy. In fact, I would say that the story is fantastic, it has a great rhyming rhythm as well as a little bit of humor and it shows a lovely relationship between the little boy and his mum.

I am so pleased when my daughter chooses The Smoth as her bedtime story as it really is a lovely book to read. We both love looking at the illustrations and I really enjoy the story too.

If you are looking for a wonderful, happy, bedtime story then I would definitely recommend The Smoth for younger children. The Smoth is available at Waterstones and Foyles.
