Now I will openly admit I have a special place in my heart for books and even more so for personalised books. So when I was asked if I wanted to take a look at Wise-ish Words from The Book of Everyone, how could I say no? (Spoiler – I most definitely couldn’t!)
I am going to start off with the process of personalising the book, because it’s not simply a case of adding a name and a short message, oh no! This book takes personalisation to new, amazing levels! It takes time, but it is most definitely worth it. I sat down one afternoon whilst my daughter was at nursery and spent a wonderful time on their website customising our copy of Wise-ish Words.
It was simple and easy to do, but to get it right there are lots of things to consider. Once you have got your to and from’s filled in it’s on to the style of the book and quotes. First of all you choose the theme of the book, there are three to choose from and I went for Original. Then it’s on tothe types of quotes on scale of heartfelt to cheeky (is that not the best scale there is?!) All quotes can be edited later on so it doesn’t really matter where you choose, so don’t panic.
Then you head right in to the creation page, a big Edit Button appears letting you know which pages can be edited. Starting with the intro page and then in to the quotes.
Each double page has a large landscape image and on the right hand page is a speechbubble with a quote. When you click to edit the page you can either choose from one of three listed quotes (each page has three different quotes listed) or you can write your own quote. I did a mix of prewritten quotes and my own. And on pages where I liked two of the pre-written quotes I made sure to make a note of it and nabbed it for later pages.
As you can image, it took time to read and choose the quotes for each page, so I recommend sitting down with a cup of tea and having fun with it. I love creating the book and I can’t wait to read it to my daughter, and I can’t wait until she is old enough to read it for herself. I leaned more towards the ‘heartfelt’ side of the scale but I couldn’t resist the odd cheeky quote too.
The Book of Everyone site states that the Wise-ish Words book contains ‘unusually great advice for kids’ and I have to agree I think it’s a great way to get across important life messages (or at least start the discussions about them) without everything being too serious. The book itself with the funky bold pictures and the mix of both heartfelt and cheeky quotes is great for showing that things don’t have to be serious to get a point across.
I also love that the back page of the book is a thank you to whoever created the book, which the child can write and detail their favourite page, I can imagine that for everyone personalising Wise-ish Words for a child, they are very interested to find out which quote has resonated with that child the most.
I honestly adore Wise-ish Words, I think it’s a fantastic idea and I have been telling everyone about how great it is. I would have loved getting my own copy as a child and I can’t wait until my daughter can read her copy for herself. I hope that the heartfelt messages will help her feel better when she needs it, and I hope the cheeky quotes make her smile.
Wise-ish words are aimed at children’s between the ages of 9 and 13 and to me that sounds right, my husband sons are in that age range and I think that Wise-ish Words would make the perfect present for them. Mixing English and Danish quotes might make it that little bit more personal to them too.
Our copy of the book arrived really quickly, I was pleasantly surprised. It was well packaged and arrived in pristine condition (something I do worry about when ordering books online). The quality is gorgeous for the softback book, and there are hardback versions too.
All in all, I think Wise-ish Words is an amazing book and I would definitely recommend it as the perfect pressie for children aged 9-12. You can create your own copy right here.
I received a copy of Wise-ish Words FOC, however all opinions and words are my own.
